Sony Ten is an Indian pay TV sports network owned by Sony Pictures Networks and Ten Sports. It broadcasts cricket, association football, golf, basketball, tennis, MMA and wrestling events. It was launched in 1 April 2002.
Sachin Tendulkar is the brand ambassador of Sony India’s sports channels.
In January 2001, Taj Television was established in Dubai Media City. The company launched Ten Sports Live on 1 April 2002.
In 2005, Zee Entertainment Enterprises launched Zee Sports as their 24-hour sports broadcasting network. Later, in November 2006, Zee acquired Taj Television India as a subsidiary. In 2010, a new channel named Ten Cricket was launched. Zee Sports was rebranded to Ten Action in 2010, which featured adventures sports and non-cricket content such as tennis and football. Ten also launched a separate feed for Pakistan.
In August 2016, Zee’s CEO Subash Chandra announced that the company was negotiating with Sony Pictures Networks to sell its sports channel bouquet Ten Sports. The agreement was signed in September 2016 and the acquisition was planned to be two-phased. With the completion of the first phase of the purchase, Sony expanded its sports network to 9 channels. On 18 July 2017, the Ten channels were rebranded under the Sony umbrella with the “Sony” brand attached as a prefix on the former network’s name, in addition with the launch of the HD simulcasts.
